Versatile quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts has been cleared to play in Week 1 of the National Football League.

The 28-year-old Luck missed the entire season last year after suffering a horrific shoulder injury. Last Tuesday, Luck showed to everyone that he is ready for the long grind when he threw a ball for the first time since October.

“My goal is to be able to throw as much as I need to in a game week. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at practice and a Sunday, let it loose, no count, nothing. You gotta go and let it go. That’s what I’m preparing for,” Luck revealed.

Luck underwent surgery to repair his injured right shoulder in January of last year. He reportedly converted 20 to 25 throws in the Colts’ public practice before returning to the locker room after 30 minutes.

In a Spring League Meeting, coach Frank Reich told reporters that Luck started his recovery process by throwing small footballs last March. In this week’s practice, Luck reportedly threw a college-sized ball known as the Wilson TDS 1205 football. Luck also reportedly threw a regulation football a few weeks back but asked Reich not to tell the media.

Luck began his offseason workout with the team in April by participating in individual drills. However, his workout did not include throwing a ball. Luck began his rehab late last year before consulting with throwing experts in South California.

The 2012 top overall pick originally injured his shoulder in 2015 against the Tennessee Titans before deciding to undergo surgery last year. During the three injury-ridden seasons, Luck missed a total of 26 games.

A Big Help For The Colts

The Colts has been nothing short of a disappointment since the absence of Luck. The team missed the playoffs and finished last season with a terrible 4-12 win-loss record. In addition, the Colts also missed the playoffs in 2015 and 2016 after finishing with 8-8 cards on those respective seasons.

Prior to his injury, Luck proved to be a good luck charm for the Colts as he led them to three consecutive playoff appearances. He has also appeared in three Pro Bowls while being recognized as the league’s passing touchdown leader in 2014.

Luck and the Colts will kick-start their hunt for a return ticket to the playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team is set to begin their training camp next month.
