It can be brought to mind that Bregman had scored a triple in the sixth-inning before Colorado manager Bud Black requested for a review. The video review displayed an Astros fan reaching mitt over the wall in the hopes of catching the ball.
As per MLB rules, the batter will be ruled out if a fan clearly prevents a fielder from catching a fly ball by reaching onto the field of play. It can be recalled that Bregman who was the leadoff hitter in the sixth hit a ball that almost reached the left field of the wall.
Colorado Rockies left fielder Gerardo Parra leapt at the fence when the ball hit the glove of a fan wearing an Astros jersey. The Rockies eventually scored a closely-contested 3-2 win over the Astros.
“It was a f–king joke, and they should be f–king ashamed of themselves. Obviously, the guy has never played f–king baseball before in his life, the guy in charge of whoever made that decision,” an angry Bregman said.
The Astros were unable to bounce back as they converted just a single hit off three Rockies’ pitchers. Houston went on to lose after Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon converted a walk-off home run.
Bregman finished the game 0-for-3 from the field. Since the All-Star break, Bregman who registered a double and a homer on Tuesday has gone 3-for-19 at the plate.
The 24-year-old Bregman currently has a .282 batting average on top of 21 home runs and 68 RBI. Bregman won the 2018 All-Star Game MVP by scoring the game-winning homer in the extra innings for the American League.
Astros Still In Good Position
Despite the loss, the Astros still remain in a good position in the AL West as they hold a five-game advantage over the Seattle Mariners. The Astros are currently enjoying a good July as the team managed to win 12 of their 19 games this month.
Houston hopes to rebound from their terrible loss as they take on the Texas Rangers starting on Friday. After three games with the Rangers, the Astros will end the month by taking on the Mariners on July 30th and 31st.
On the other hand, the victory was massive for the Rockies who are 1.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. The Rockies trail the Atlanta Braves by 1.5 games for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
