GRAND PRAIRIE, TX. — Like Monday, Tuesday’s action leads off with an elimination game.
UC San Diego or Quincy will see its time come to an end in the DII Baseball Championship.
Yesterday saw Delta State and North Georgia face off in a fight for their championship lives. The loser of the game was going home, the winner got to fight another day.
The Statesmen’s starting pitcher Tre Hobbs answered the call, hurling a complete game shutout, striking out nine Nighthawks along the way in a 4-0 shutout. The Delta State offense broke through with some much needed runs in the fourth, highlighted by a Clay Casey two-run bases loaded single.
The nightcap was a matchup of two 1-0 teams. After a rocky first inning that saw both teams exchange runs, West Chester’s starter Mike Cipolla and Lindenwood’s starter Andrew Eilers both settled in nicely. They put up goose eggs until the eighth inning. That was when the Golden Rams executed an inning of small ball, creating runs with the opportnities they were giving and walking away with a 5-2 victory.
We are just hours away from yet another battle for survival. NCAA.com is live from pregame to postgame of all the days festivities, so stay stay right here for live updates all day long. For now, scroll below for a full recap of Monday’s games:
This tournament is wide open. Delta State was the only No. 1 seed to advance from its region. Quincy, Lindenwood, St. Thomas Aquinas and UC San Diego all present compelling underdog stories. West Chester and North Georgia are two of the hottest teams in DII. And Colorado Mesa hasn’t stopped hitting the cover off the ball since February.
