A’ja Wilson’s storied career may not have ended the way she wanted with South Carolina’s season ending in the Elite Eight at the hands of UConn. Her WBNA career, however, is already starting off on the right foot.
Wilson, the first three-time Southeastern Conference player of the year in its history, ended her career at South Carolina as the program’s all-time leading scorer. On Thursday night, she began her WBNA career as the No. 1 overall pick, selected by the freshly relocated Las Vegas Aces.
If becoming the top pick was not enough for Wilson, perhaps the surprise phone call afterward sealed the deal. Her longtime favorite player, Blake Griffin, made a quick phone call. Her reaction, on the other hand, will live forever.
Then she got a surprise message from her longtime favorite player, @BlakeGriffin23.
