Chicago advanced to its first title game since 2003 in the first semifinals match of the day. The Maroons struck early, when Madori Spiker stole a pass and found Hannah Watkins streaking to the goal just six minutes into the action. It would be all Chicago needed, posting its fifth-straight shutout this postseason, en route to defeating TCNJ 1-0.
The second match finished with the same score, but was a much differently fought battle. Williams and Hardin-Williams fought to a scoreless tie in the first half, despite Williams controlling possession. Hardin-Williams came out firing in the second half, yet the two remained scoreless until the 85th minute. Alison Lu was able to sneak one past Hardin-Simmons Caitlin Christiansen — who was outstanding with nine saves — for the game-winner.
Chicago and Williams will now face for the title. Neither team has allowed a goal this postseason. Someone will have to in order to claim a champions.
