The DII Men’s Soccer Championship final match is set. Two programs very familiar with the national championship game are once again returning to the finals. Lynn and Charleston (WV) will face off for the title Saturday, December 2 from Kansas City, Missouri.

The first semifinal match of the night pitted two teams with plenty of semifinals experience behind them. Lynn had been absent for the past three years, but have made four appearances in head coach John Rootes’ nine seasons. Rockhurst was making its fourth semifinals appearance in the past five years. Both teams needed more than 90 minutes to find its victor. In fact, they needed both overtimes and then some. The two teams battled for 110 scoreless minutes until Lynn was able to advance to the finals, netting three of its penalty kicks.

The nightcap featured the last two national runners-up. Cal Poly Pomona was the runner-up in 2015 and No. 3 Charleston (WV) was on the wrong side of the championship game final score in both 2014 and 2016. This one looked as if it were headed to overtime as well, scoreless for nearly 87 minutes. Charleston was relentless on its attack all night, and finally forced Broncos keeper Jason Trejos to make a mistake. Trejos, who made save after save on the evening, made yet another, but it slipped out of his hands before he was set and trickled into the net for the game winning goal.
